“The candle inside of us will eventually burn out; the question is: did it light the path for those following us?” –Orrin Woodward
Starting this article with this particular quote seems fitting–as it’s the favorite quote of the young man from the couple whose story you’re about to peruse. It’s interesting that as we focus on exhibiting so many of the success stories that people are sharing about their experiences with the Financial Fitness Program, we also read that their newfound financial success has led to progress in so many other areas of their life, as well. We’re finding that as people plug in to proven principles, not only do they benefit in their financial status, but they’re also positively affected in some of the other important aspects of their lives–such as their relationships, their fitness and their leadership. Read on to get a glimpse into the lives of two “average” young people that have decided to take control of their financial fitness–and in doing so–leave a legacy for others to follow.
Like many other young Americans, Titus and Melissa Jumper grew up in a very different world than their parents and grandparents. Unfortunately, even though the economy has changed drastically since these two were born, the society still teaches the same process to arrive at so-called “success.” Therefore, after graduating high school together in 2009 in Southern California, Titus and Melissa both immediately started their college career at Citrus College. Melissa jumped on the path to becoming an accountant, while Titus began studying to become a civil engineer. Not long into their journey, Melissa was able to pursue her dream of becoming a pastry chef and went on to attend Le Cordon Bleu.
“Sure enough, with a fancy-named school came a ‘fancy’ loan of $30,000.”
In July of 2011, Titus and Melissa decided to tie the knot–and consequently, combine their debt. Even though Titus had received his first credit card at the early age of sixteen, the couple really started to rack up the credit card debt after they got married.
“The debt was suffocating. We had to juggle our bills and guess about how long we had until the creditors would start calling. It was definitely putting a strain on our marriage, and we knew that we had to change something–or nothing was going to change!”
Finally, after having been introduced to the Financial Fitness Program (FFP) way back before Melissa had graduated, the disheartened couple decided to pick it up and go through it. As they read and started to apply the information, they set up a budget for themselves and began to pay only cash for the things they consumed.
“We stopped all credit card spending. Then we worked with our bank to set up a payment program to pay off all of our debts. We started putting at least 10% away in savings for a rainy day…What a relief it is to have some padding, just in case.”
About the time that Titus and Melissa made all of these changes was when they found out they were expecting their first daughter, Amelia. Although they were hacking away at the $12,000 of credit card debt, they realized through the Financial Fitness teachings that it made more sense to take a step back so that they could gain some momentum with their financial situation. Accordingly, the young couple humbled themselves to move in with Titus’ brother to help cut costs and save more for their family’s future.
“It was difficult with a new baby…and especially with our family looking at us as if we had two heads; but over time, we were able to realign all of our finances and move into our own place.”
Ultimately, the Jumper family experienced a huge victory when they were able to pay off their very last credit card bill on their fourth wedding anniversary–July 1st of 2015. This was just in time for them to announce the birth of their second bundle of joy, Emily Belle, who graced the outside world a couple of weeks later. As for the tens of thousands of dollars from their combined student loans, Titus and Melissa have faithfully worked them down; and now they only have $9,000 left to eliminate until they are completely free from the Financial Matrix!
“We have finally gotten to the point that we own everything we buy. We bought our second car in cash, and already own the first. It’s an amazing feeling to not have this pile of bricks sitting on my chest every morning…And now our family and friends are starting to see the progress and discipline that we have put into practice. Soon enough, Melissa and I will be able to do things for them and help them in ways that they could never dream of.” -Titus Jumper
Imagine the kind of success that this 25-year-old couple has the potential to create, now that they have learned both the Save Money AND Make Money facets of the Financial Fitness Program. Not only are they well on their way out of the Financial Matrix, but they now have the foundation to share this message with anyone else who is willing to listen. Melissa sums up their turn-around story best when she shares her following favorite quote:
“Entrepreneurship is living a few years like most people WON’T, so that you can live a life that most people CAN’T.” -Lisa Hawkins

About a week ago I shared the Life Leadership opportunity with a successful professional woman in our area. When I talked about the financial matrix, she told me that she had paid cash for her condo where she now lives. However, she is putting 3 children through college and is piling up huge debt. She wants to join our company but doesn’t have enough leeway on a credit card to register until she gets paid. She is also concerned about her children’s future. Her oldest child is about to get married and her fiance has just finished college and hasn’t found a job. This is a perfect message for them. They wouldn’t care what someone my age thinks about how to live and manage money but by sharing this message, I can demonstrate the value of what we are doing.in a way that they can relate. Thank you so much, Titus and Melissa, for setting such a great example and for sharing your story to inspire others.
