“Most people spend more time planning their vacations than they do their financial future.” – Marc Militello
Before the Financial Fitness Program, Kyle and Nettie Embry were stressed out and exhausted. They were always worrying about how they were going to pay their bills while living paycheck to paycheck (sometimes struggling to even make that work). Kyle was working two full-time jobs, one of them being a self-employed farmer with business debt, along with two part-time jobs. Nettie had just opened up her own self-employed business, which accrued a large debt load just to get it started, and required a lot of working hours as well. With student loan debt, consumer debt, vehicle debt, agricultural debt, and business debt, there seemed to be no hope.
“Our 2 small children were such a blessing but we rarely had any time together as a family.”
To fill a void and feeling the need to “keep up with the Jones,” Nettie used credit cards to make unnecessary purchases. When they did have time, they spent a lot of money entertaining themselves just try to escape the reality they were in. This made their financial problems even worse.
“The lack of time spent together took a huge toll on our marriage and we were contemplating divorce. At one point, Kyle remembers only having 2 fifty cent pieces to use for grocery money to feed his family. Depressed and looking for answers, a friend approached them about some financial information.“
Nettie was approached first and was extremely skeptical to even look at the information. In fact, it took her over a year to finally listen to what their friend had to say. After they finally sat down with the information, started listening to the audios, and reading, they realized how backwards they were and how almost everything they knew about finances was completely wrong.
“Although it was tough to change the thinking process that we had all of our lives, being around an association of successful people and the information from the Financial Fitness Program helped us stay on course.”
The first few victories were small, and to the outside world they looked like they were going backwards. They each sold off both of their newer automobiles that had payments and bought used vehicles with cash. Then they were able to take that money and invest in themselves and pay off more debt. Within the first 2 years, they paid off over $30,000 in credit card debt and eliminated those cards completely.
“Because we aligned our priorities and got some debt paid off, we were able to spend more time together and repair our broken marriage. We established a budget together for the year and even though it was sometimes a struggle to follow, the small victories kept coming as we stayed disciplined.”
With the death of Kyle’s father, new financial stumbling blocks were placed in their path. But with the help and support of amazing friends and mentors, it made going through the challenges a little easier to bear. Soon Nettie was able to cut back her hours at work to be able to spend more time with their children. Kyle and Nettie also realized that they wanted to be the biggest influence in their children’s lives, so they pulled them out of public school and Nettie started homeschooling them. Kyle was able to cut back his hours as well so he, too, could spend more time with his wife and children.
“Even though we are not completely out of the Financial Matrix yet, we have now eliminated almost $400,000.00 in business and consumer debt!”
Kyle only works one full-time and one part-time job and Nettie works one day a week outside of the home and still homeschools their children. They are on track to have their business debt, farm debt, and their mortgage paid off within the next two years.
“Best of all, our children are happier, healthier, and have an amazing new mindset! The Financial Fitness information has not only helped us get out of debt and learn how to invest, but saved our marriage too! God has blessed us so much with this amazing information! Now we are working to fulfill our purpose to becoming financially free by helping others get better knowledge with their finances, and repair other broken marriages, one family at a time.”
